| 1 July 2008 - Second Stage of Health Reform Legislation Approved |
The Second Stage of the legislation proposing important reforms for health and social care has today been agreed by the Assembly.
The reforms include the establishment of a Regional Health and Social Care Board, a Regional Agency for Public Health and Social Well-Being, a Patient and Client Council and a Regional Support Services Organisation.
The completion of this stage means that the reforms are on schedule for implementation by April 2009.
On 23 June 2006, the Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety introduced the Health and Social Care (Reform) Bill into the Assembly for First Reading. This followed a 12 week consultation period on the proposals.
