 6 May 2008 - Listen to Me, I'm a Patient

The Open University is conducting research to collect and test the opinions of the British public on their attitudes and choices about healthcare.

The aim of the online survey, Listen to Me, I’m a Patient, is to learn about people’s knowledge of healthcare and the decisions they make about their healthcare.

During spring 2008, Kathy Sykes, informed by her scientific training and the experience of patients, explored different types of healthcare in a new OU/BBC series, Alternative Therapies.

“Everyone’s a patient. During our lives we all make important choices about our healthcare, whether treating sickness or generally keeping ourselves well,” she says.

“We want to find out about the choices you make about your healthcare, be it conventional, complementary or alternative. How do you make decisions about your healthcare? What are your opinions, expectations and experiences?”

The survey is anonymous and the results will be published in autumn 2008. The research is supported by a series of discussion events throughout the UK, including Northern Ireland.

You can take part in the study by joining a discussion group at the Linenhall Library, 17 Donegall Square, Belfast, on Tuesday 3 June 2008, from 6pm to 8pm.
