Description:
Belfast Local Commissioning Group (LCG), serving the population of the Belfast City Council area, is one of seven LCGs covering the Northern Ireland region.
Under the Review of Public Administration (RPA), it is envisaged that LCGs will become the principal focus for securing improvement in the health and wellbeing of the population for which they are responsible. They will, within the parameters set by the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS), engage closely with their communities and commission the majority of health and social care services to meet identified needs and Ministerial/Departmental targets.
Belfast LCG, currently operating in shadow form, is working in partnership with the Eastern Health and Social Services Board (EHSSB) to identify health and social care commissioning priorities for 2008/09.
The LCG has 15 members in total comprising:
• 4 General Practitioners (GPs)
• 3 other independent contractors (dentist, pharmacist and optometrist)
• 2 lay members
• 5 officers of the EHSSB (public health, nursing, social care x 2, allied health professions)
• 1 Area Director of Commissioning (designate)
