The local government organisation for Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough, located in the south-west of Northern Ireland. Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council area is one of the greatest areas of population growth over the past five-year period, with a population of approximately 53,500. The main population centres are the principal town of Dungannon with approximately 1/5 of the population and its second large town Coalisland. The Borough comprises two local towns, Moy and Fivemiletown, in addition to eight villages, and 32 settlements or hamlets.

The Council performs five principal roles within its Borough:

• the direct provision of services and facilities including community facilities, leisure, waste collection, street cleansing;

• the promotion of the arts, tourism, community and economic development;

• the regulation and licensing of certain activities relating to environmental health, consumer protection and public safety, building control, street trading etc;

• a representative role on a number of bodies and boards including education and health;

• a consultative role in relation to functions conducted by other Government bodies and agencies on issues such as planning, water, roads and housing.
