The Southern Health and Social Services Board (SHSSB) has an annual budget of £460m to commission health and social services to a population of 320,000 across the five district council areas of Armagh, Dungannon and South Tyrone, Banbridge, Craigavon and Newry and Mourne .
The Board is responsible for assessing and prioritising the health and social care needs of the population and ensuring high quality, effective services are in place to meet these needs. This includes responsibility for statutory functions and for delivering on wide-ranging regional and local targets and objectives. The Board sets out its plans for commissioning services each year in its Health and Wellbeing Improvement Plan. One of the Board’s major priorities is to actively promote community and user empowerment and extend involvement in health and social care planning, delivery and performance management.
